My Story

Tara's Active Groups was founded on a straightforward principle: physical activity should be for everyone. Not just for people who are already fit. Not just for those who feel comfortable in a mainstream gym. For everyone - including the people that the fitness industry most often overlooks.

Hello I am Tara

I started out as an activity leader at holiday resorts across Europe, then spent time in Thailand teaching English as a foreign language. I have always loved fitness and the outdoors, and those early years working with people from all walks of life shaped everything that followed.

Back in England, I completed a Master's degree in Applied Anthropology, Community and Youth Work at Goldsmiths, University of London, and spent several years working in youth clubs and mentoring young people. My route into fitness came through Growing Together Northampton, a community-based charity where I received Sport England funding to train as a gym instructor and pre and postnatal specialist. I later studied with London Pilates Academy, achieving a Level 3 qualification in Mat Pilates, and have since become a qualified Otago Exercise Programme Leader - an evidence-based programme that helps older and less mobile adults improve their strength, balance and confidence.

The decision to set up Tara's Active Groups was a personal one. As a parent of a child with SEND, I know first-hand how hard it can be to find physical activity that works for your whole family. That experience drove me to create something different - groups that fit around real life, genuinely welcome people with additional needs, and create safe spaces where everyone can take part and thrive.

My mission is to bring together community, youth, SEND and fitness in one place.

My Approach

There are no mirrors, no pressure to keep up and no judgement in my sessions. Just well-structured, properly qualified instruction in a space where everyone is genuinely welcome.

I run sessions both in-person and online, making them accessible to as many people as possible regardless of location or circumstance.

Whether you are pregnant, postnatal, living with a disability, have a child with additional needs, are getting older, or have simply never found a fitness class that felt right for you - Tara's Active Groups was built with you in mind.
